Early To Mass
Far from arriving late for Mass, good Catholics should make it a point to come
at least five, if not ten, minutes early. To offer it worthily in union with the
priest, one needs time to "collect his thoughts" - to RECOLLECT him or herself,
shutting out distractions and preoccupation about worldly or temporal affairs
and concentrating on the tremendous mystery of the Holy Sacrifice about to take
place. This mental collecting of oneself is not something that can easily be
done "on the spot" and to neglect or disregard it is to be wanting in respect
and reverence for the Mass. And this is apart from the question of coming TWENTY
minutes early on Sunday for the Rosary said before Mass, which is the IDEAL
preparation for it.
